First Amendment

Amendment I:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Following the Preamble, I think this first amendment does an excellent job of prioritizing the simple but extremely relevant concepts that help our nation remain balanced and strong. It ultimately shows how much freedom people have, and this amendment highlights these rights.  This makes it possible for people to see their full influence and impact; especially with a freedom of speech.  I think it is important that Congress can still monitor; defamatory, inflammatory, hate speech, and true threats, because this steers the peoples influence in a positive manner.

Be thoughtful.

Although we are given the rights within the first amendment, I think it is always wise to be considerate and thoughtful in the way we approach these selected freedoms.  This video is a good reminder of thinking before we speak, because our words and the way we say things can be interpreted in many ways, leaving us with consequences!! It is important to recognize and express our individuality but to also be aware that our existence affects the people around us; or not around us in our ever-growing technological world.

The Preamble to the Constitution


WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.


The Preamble to the Constitution, brings a sense of political clarity, and unity.  The words in the preamble provide a glance into how the Founding Fathers hoped to shape the United States.  A statement to reflect upon in the past and present, by all the people of the United States.


A now for a bit of Preamble cuteness...



No matter how old or young, it is important to recognize that the Preamble as well as the remainder of the Constitution applys to all of us, and serves a great purpose.  It is important for ALL to know what the Preamble stands for, the overall well-being and safety of all Americans.
